Gender
Gender identification is soul identification.
Our physical bodies are made in the image of our spiritual bodies, the primary difference is our spiritual body is eternal and in a state of adulthood whereas the flesh is born smooth and dies wrinkly with changes every day in the transition. The soul that resides is eternal and that means even if you were born today you weren't created today, you just came here today. You already existed and came here at birth and then "return" to the Father at death just as written. This second earth age started with all of us in heaven together in our spiritual bodies and then we come one at a time through our family tree. The earthly life we squeeze into our decades is a little different from the eternal existence our spiritual body experiences because in the first earth age (dinosaur time) and in the eternity (Lion and Lamb time) all souls are already in their heritage:

All souls are the same age relatively speaking.
Your soul is eternal. Since eternity has no beginning or ending, that means you existed prior to being born. Our Father created all the souls.

It's how he knew us before we we're born.

It's why we are charged with being born from above.
John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
We are flesh here only.
Being a male or female is a temporary thing.

We don't procreate in heaven.
I'm going to pull something out of the Bible and it's not going to be what most people expect. There is a story in the book of Luke where Christ was being asked which man a certain woman would be married to in heaven since she had survived seven husbands. His response was:
34 - And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 - But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
I put it to you that he was teaching this "male/female reproduction" and making of our "family tree" is how we are able to allow all souls to experience life in the flesh, but the soul itself (which is eternal) is neither male nor female. We are very much masculine and feminine and that gives a lot of credibility to the small percentage of gay people that feel they have found their soul mate. They very well may have.
You are created in your image... not God's.
Didn't God exist before Jesus was born? The soul existed before coming here. That is why it says in Genesis that man would be made in "our" image. Who do you think God was talking to?
Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:…
Us isn't the Trinity. The Trinity is comprised within God himself. When God made man flesh He said let's make them in the image of the Erohim, which means God and his children. Aren't we his children? The same ones you expect to see from your family tree later in heaven? Will your grandpa still be a grandpa as in "older than you" in heaven? No. There is no sense of time from an aging perspective as we see in the typical 60+ year life of a flesh person. Existence and reality continue down the timeline but your "self" is in a constant state of age relatively speaking. Your soul is alive today in your flesh body and it ages according to the rules of fleshly reality. That alone makes you eligible to continue later (because you came by birth). Your DNA is the evidence you played the game fairly by being born. When you take the soul out of the body the flesh returns to the dust from which it came and it is also written that the soul "returns" to the Father which gave it. That also documents that it existed and came here. You can't return to a place you haven't been. There is nothing weird about the concept of your soul existing before whatever year you were born. It only comes here once, but it was alive with the Father in heaven before being sent here. That for example is how we can say the Word is Christ even though the Word existed before Christ was physically born. To say He didn't exist before entering the womb is a dead end. How else could he personally be tied to anything written in the Old Testament? How could it have been His plan? History records His visit and window of time. He was alive and "re"turned to where we all go... Just as your heritage did, just as we do, and just as your children will. We were all with God when earth was prepared for this segment and man was made flesh for participation. It seems reasonable to conclude that if we are going to live forever in heaven, and if we are made to look now like we do in heaven, then isn't is possible that we were there with God in our eternal state where it was put forth man would be crafted after who we already were?
Isn't it possible we were in heaven in an eternal state, "something happened" and now we are all going though a short lifespan to face whatever it is God needs to see in order to make a judgment, and later those that make it will be part of the eternity going forward. That brings up a lot of questions like what happened? Why do we even need to be tested? The critical concept to grasp is that there was an age before this one.
